Parenting Support & Free Parenting Classes

Parenting Support

Choosing to continue a pregnancy and to parent a child can feel overwhelming at first – especially if a woman is uninsured, young or unsupported. It can be reassuring to know that there are many resources designed specifically with this situation in mind.

The caring staff of Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center are ready to connect people with these and other helpful services and support:

  • prenatal care referrals
  • childbirth preparation
  • relationship counseling and support
  • parenting classes
  • new moms’ groups
  • support for dads by dads
  • peer counseling for family members
  • spiritual and emotional support
  • infant care materials and supplies through PREP (our Parenting Readiness & Enrichment Program)
  • an empowerment program called “Getting Ahead” offered by RENEW Life

PREP

Lighthouse provides women and their partners with an opportunity to learn how to become the best parent they can be. We use materials from the Earn While You Learn program, which covers topics relevant to the start of pregnancy through your child’s toddler years. Additional materials from the National Fatherhood Initiative, COPE, and other respected parenting organizations provide solid advice on a wide range of challenging subjects and life skills, such as potty training, discipline, and parenting teenagers.

Lessons are tailored to the individual needs of each mom, dad or couple we are serving. Many of our peer counselors, instructors, and staff have been in their shoes, and understand some of the challenges they are facing.

No one needs to feel alone as they face an unplanned pregnancy!

Our Parenting Readiness & Enrichment Program (PREP) offers material support to those who come regularly to Lighthouse during their pregnancy for counseling, mentoring or educational classes. The material aid (diapers, baby clothing and other essentials like car seats) continues until the child turns one, at that time parents may still come for peer counseling, but will be refered to other community resources and local churches for further life support. Lighthouse commits to provide some of the essentials needed to care for a newborn, in exchange for a commitment from them to become a healthy, prepared parent!

“I really think Lighthouse is an oasis for those who look for peace. For those who want to learn, it is of great help to our minds and hearts.”
