Toward the end of 2019, Lighthouse took a bold but necessary step forward with the purchase of a building in the heart of Hawthorne on Lafayette Ave, right across from the movie theater. This new facility will serve as a main headquarters and expanded ministry location, increasing our capacity for serving families, saving and changing lives. If this is your first time hearing the news, we are THRILLED for you to join in our excitement!
Construction work at the Hawthorne building began in January 2020, and continued at a good pace despite the challenges of COVID-19 and social distancing. We reached a significant milestone in this project on December 14, 2020, when we began providing client services at this new facility. Since then, the facility has been utilized six days a week for programs to support life choices and strengthen families in our community! In January 2023 we will dedicate a new Memorial Room for the Unborn that will provide a place for parents to honor pregnancy losses.

A Prayerful Decision
The planning for a centralized headquarters began years ago as we reached capacity at our existing centers, while there were still many more women and men in need of our support. Although our country has seen a decrease in abortions, New Jersey has experienced a 9% increase. In 2017, this equaled 48,110 lives lost to abortion in our state – an average of 131 every day. This is why our new Hawthorne center is so essential, and why we must keep pressing forward to finish this project.- The center’s proximity to Paterson is ideal for offering evening programs and mentoring for Getting Ahead grads who work during the day, and teen moms who attend school.
- Its new multipurpose room is large enough to host a Birth of a Family program to guide our parents toward marriage and healthy relationships, while children safely play in Randy’s Room for Kids.
- Two medical rooms mean space to expand services for those at risk for abortion.
- Basement rooms and a large warehouse will eliminate trips to off-site storage, so our staff can focus on serving those making critical pregnancy decisions.
In short, everything about our new center is designed to save more lives. Thanks to Servant’s Heart Ministry, we saved thousands of dollars in construction labor costs. Many others have donated or greatly discounted the cost of their materials and labor. Their generosity kept the price of opening this new center within reach – and created a place that reflects the beauty and glorious love of God!

We launched this project in faith, and have seen the Lord provide every step of the way through people like you! We are over halfway toward our Strong Foundation for Life Campaign goal of $2.2 million!
The campaign goal includes the building’s purchase price, renovation, furnishing and equipping for ministry – plus key initiatives tied to the new space. These include: “Birth of a Family” programs to promote marriage and healthy relationships; more support for men and fathers; additional help desk staff; and expanded STD testing to reach more at-risk teens and young adults.
